Reverend David M. O'Leary, S.T.L., D.
Phil., is the University Chaplain at Tufts University. He is also a
Senior Lecturer in Religion on the Medford campus and Senior
Lecturer in Medical Ethics on the Boston and Grafton campuses.
He is also the Director of the
new Interfaith Center at Tufts, and the Director of
historic Goddard Chapel.
Born and raised in Lynn, Massachusetts,
Reverend O'Leary received his B.A. and M. Div. from Saint John's
Seminary in Boston. He earned a M.Ed. from Boston College and
the S.T.L. degree (Licentiate in Sacred Theology) from Weston Jesuit
School of Theology of Cambridge, MA. He completed his Doctorate
in Medical Ethics from the University of Oxford in England.
Prior to working at Tufts, Reverend O'Leary was a Professor of Moral
Theology, Spirituality and Sexual Ethics in Saint Mary's Seminary
& University of Baltimore, Maryland.
Reverend O'Leary is the administrator of
historic Goddard Chapel and does work in spiritual direction,
retreats, pastoral counseling, engaged and married counseling and
the full range of campus ministry. His course offerings have been:
"International Relations & World Religions", "Religions &
Economic Justice", "Mystics & Mysticism", "Catholicism",
"Catholic Moral & Social Teachings", Religious Dialogue", and
"Medical, Professional & Researcher Ethics". He is also the
Chair of the Institution Review Board (IRB) for human subject
testing, and a member of the IRB for the Tufts New England Medical
Center in Boston. He is also a member of the Harvard Board of
Ministry, Memorial Church, and Harvard University.

Reverend O'Leary
has been featured in the Boston Sunday Globe and
written up for his pioneering course "Catholicism in Crisis". He has
been interviewed on radio and television on a variety of religion
and spiritual issues. He is a member of the American Academy of
Religion, the Catholic Theological Society of America and the North
American Inter Faith Network. He has published articles on
spirituality and an op-ed piece in the Boston Globe, "When Adults Become Abusers of Young People."
